My family bought Sky as a 2 year old. I rode her when she was young and then my niece took her over. My niece took her over when Sky was 5/6 and she was 13/14. They went to junior rodeos and local barrel races for the most part until my niece sustained an injury
(not related to horses
) that took away her ability to ride. Due to this, Sky had a 2 year or so break. We started legging her up late 2023 and I picked her up in February this year to keep her in shape and get back to running. She never missed a beat.
She is currently running barefoot but we have had her in shoes. She is good either way, personal preference. She hasn't hit a barrel this year. She is the same horse every trip. Super solid and will not miss a barrel. She is patterned nicely on poles; however, I don't run them and my niece unfortunately never really got to do poles competitively with Sky before her injury. She has been running 1D/2D at more local races and 2D/3D at very large races.
Recent examples: She was 2D daily and overall at the 2024 Bonus Race Finals with over 1,500 entries. She placed in the 2D day money and 2D average at Barrels for Angels in Marshal, TX., placed in the 3D at Chickasha, OK Barrel Bash, 3rd in the 1D at $1k added MEngle & Co Spring race in Siloam Springs, AR
(110 entries & Outdoor
). She was in the 2D at the Arkansas Elite Finals. I have more videos of her than what is here if you are interested, text me. 620.515.2011
We really love this mare. She would be great for anyone looking to go and have little worries. She. is. easy. She would be spectacular for a competitive youngster who can ride well. I think a young kid would absolutely adore her. She is good at her job and loves attention.
