Very well bred, seasoned barrel horse. Take her, point her in the right direction, hustle her along (or don’t - probably makes the difference of 1D whether you hustle her or not). She doesn’t require tuning during the week. Probably want to keep her on a more restrictive diet if you aren’t riding her for exercise as she’s an easy keeper and doesn’t take much to keep her. Previous owner did some lunging with her during the week to keep her fit.
She’s excellent down the road and on trails. I’ve never seen her spook at anything. Everything she’s ever been pointed at on a trail, she goes over or through. I’m told she’ll swim with her rider too, but we haven’t tried that. She’ll go out alone or in a group. She’ll lead or follow. Pony other horses off her and she’s never offered to kick anybody no matter how close they get. She’s ’beer drinking’, ‘husband horse’ broke down the road and on trails. Doesn’t matter how long she sits, just jump on and go. She stays broke.
If you want to use her to run barrels, I wouldn’t put a beginner on her. Doesn’t need to be experienced, but someone who can keep their seat because she’s got power. She will run anywhere from top of the 2D to 4D open.
Can throw a rope off her but we don’t rope. She was an 11 second pole weaving horse with previous owner. We haven’t run poles on her. She will work cows and is a solid sorting horse.
Great for farrier, tying, loading and unloading in the trailer, vaccinations and wormer. All the things. She’s mid to low in pecking order.
Runs right, push style. She’s a power house. She’s wide and generates power. No maintenance. We don’t even shoe her even though we do ride on gravel. She’s got good, hard black hooves. They don’t chip. She doesn’t get grain or any sort of supplements. She’s on a round bale during winter and pasture during the summer.
Here’s her down side: she gets anxious going in the gate. We bought her without knowing it and have handled it fine, but you will notice it. She doesn’t do anything crazy or rear straight up or come close to flipping over or anything like that. It is preferential to be able to ‘run the gate’ with her. However, we have taken her to horse shows and 4-h where you can’t run the gate, and it’s manageable. She just gets anxious and sometimes needs some coaxing to enter the arena. Sometimes I lead her in and sometimes we use another horse and sometimes she will go on her own.
